Practical guide to roas vs roi vs romi: formulas, workflow, implementation pitfalls, and a direct execution playbook with ROI Calculator.

Ad spend ROI and unit economics calculator.
ROAS, ROI, and ROMI all measure return on money spent — but they answer different questions. Using the wrong one leads to wrong decisions.
ROAS = Revenue / Ad Spend
Measures top-line revenue per dollar of advertising. Ignores costs.
ROI = (Profit - Total Cost) / Total Cost x 100%
Measures net return on total investment. Includes all costs.
ROMI = (Gross Profit from Marketing - Marketing Cost) / Marketing Cost x 100%
Measures return on marketing spend specifically, using gross profit (not revenue).
You spend $10,000 on ads. Results:
| Metric | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| ROAS | $50,000 / $10,000 | **5.0x** |
| ROI | ($30,000 - $10,000) / $10,000 x 100% | **200%** |
| ROMI | ($30,000 - $10,000) / $10,000 x 100% | **200%** |
Now add $5,000 in total operational costs (team, tools, overhead):
| Metric | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| ROI | ($30,000 - $15,000) / $15,000 x 100% | **100%** |
ROAS stays at 5x regardless of margin. ROI changes when you include the full cost base.
