How does the Open Graph preview work?↓
The tool fetches the URL you enter, parses its HTML server-side, and reads the og:title, og:description, og:image, twitter:card, and other social meta tags. It renders mock previews exactly as Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Slack, and iMessage would display the link.
Why does my OG image not show up?↓
Common causes: the og:image URL is relative (must be absolute, https://...), the image is larger than 8 MB, the image is behind authentication, or the image dimensions are off-spec (use 1200×630 px for best results). Some platforms also require a non-cached fetch — bump a query string to force re-scrape.
Do platforms cache OG previews?↓
Yes, aggressively. Facebook caches via the Sharing Debugger (re-scrape there), LinkedIn caches for ~7 days, Slack caches per workspace until the link is unfurled by a different user. To refresh, append ?v=2 to the URL or use each platform's debugging tool.
Should I also set Twitter Card tags separately?↓
Set them as belt-and-suspenders, but most modern crawlers fall back to Open Graph if Twitter-specific tags are missing. The minimum useful Twitter set is twitter:card (typically "summary_large_image"), twitter:title, and twitter:description — even just twitter:card with og:* tags works well.
