Decode and analyze parameters in marketing URLs.
UTM errors compound silently. One wrong utm_medium in week 1 becomes 4 weeks of polluted data before anyone notices. A 15-minute weekly audit prevents this.
Click every active UTM-tagged URL. If the page returns 404 or redirects to the homepage, your campaign spend is wasted. Check at least the top 10 highest-traffic links.
Search GA4 for your current campaign name. If you see spring-sale-2026 and springsale-2026 and spring-sale-2026-v2, consolidate immediately.
Filter GA4's source/medium report. Every Facebook should be facebook, every CPC should be cpc.
Look at the "Direct" channel in GA4. If direct traffic spiked the same week you launched a campaign, your campaign links might be missing UTM parameters.
Check if anyone introduced a new utm_source value that is not in your naming convention document.
Test links that pass through redirects (shorteners, vanity URLs). Confirm UTM params survive the full chain.
A tagged URL that leads to a broken page still registers in GA4 but produces zero conversions. Cross-reference your UTM landing pages with your site's error logs.
