UTM Best Practices for Email Marketing
For email campaigns, use consistent UTM conventions: utm_source=newsletter or your brand name (not 'email' — GA4 will group it under 'email' channel automatically based on utm_medium), utm_medium=email (required for GA4 channel grouping), utm_campaign=2024-march-promo (lowercase, dash-separated for consistency). Common mistake: leaving UTMs off email links so GA4 attributes the traffic as 'direct'. Every link in your email, including unsubscribe links (optional) and logo links, should have UTMs.
